Maizon Rodríguez transferred from Unión to Krasnodar for $4.5 million

Unión has finalized the sale of Uruguayan defender Maizon Rodríguez to the Russian club Krasnodar for approximately $4.5 million. The 23-year-old center-back will move to Europe following an intensified interest from the Russian side, which sought defensive reinforcements after the departure of Diego Costa to PAOK.

This transfer represents a significant financial gain for Unión. The club had previously acquired 50% of Rodríguez's economic rights for roughly $825,000. While his departure is considered a notable sporting loss for manager Leonardo Madelón, the club intends to utilize Matías Rocha Calderón as an option to fill the vacancy in the defensive line.

Rodríguez joined Unión in 2025 from Juventud Las Piedras and made 37 appearances for the Santa Fe-based club, scoring one goal during his tenure.
