Maja Chwalinska becomes first qualifier to reach French Open final

At Roland Garros, 24‑year‑old Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska defeated Diane Schnaider 7‑6(4), 6‑4 to book a place in the women’s singles final, becoming the first qualifier ever to do so at the French Open and only the second qualifier in Grand Slam history.

Chwalinska entered the tournament ranked outside the top 100 and posted nine straight wins after coming through qualifying. She will meet Russian Mirra Andreyeva, who also reached her first Grand Slam final, in the Saturday showdown. After the semi‑final victory, Chwalinska said she felt “in a bubble” and was “in shock” about her achievement.
