Leylah Fernandez to face Talia Gibson in WTA Singapore Open final

The WTA 500 Singapore Tennis Open final will feature Canada’s Leylah Fernandez against Australia’s Talia Gibson. Fernandez secured her place in the final after a three-set comeback victory over Poland’s Maja Chwalinska, winning 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Gibson advanced to the final without playing her semifinal match due to the withdrawal of Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova. Prozorova, who had been enjoying a successful tournament, was forced to withdraw following a medical decision regarding a potential concussion. Prozorova, who was struck by a ball during a doubles match, contested the decision, stating she felt fit to play but failed a balance test while fatigued. The WTA maintained that player safety and concussion protocols are the highest priority.

In the other semifinal, Chwalinska defeated Elise Mertens to reach the final stages before her loss to Fernandez.
