Maja Chwalińska eyes Wimbledon wild‑card after McEnroe’s backing

Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska, who reached the Roland Garros final and jumped from world No. 114 to No. 21, is seeking entry into the Wimbledon main draw. The entry deadline for Wimbledon had passed while she was still ranked outside the automatic qualification range, meaning she would need to play qualifying matches or receive a wild card.

During a live interview on TNT Sports, former champion John McEnroe urged All England Club committee member Tim Henman to grant Chwalińska a wild card, describing her as an ideal candidate. Henman agreed with McEnroe’s view, but the final decision will be made by the club’s committee in the coming week.

If awarded the wild card, Chwalińska would bypass qualifying rounds and join the Wimbledon field that begins on 29 June.
