Maja Chwalińska honored in Poland after historic Roland Garros run
Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska advanced from the qualifying rounds to the final of the 2026 Roland Garros tournament in Paris, where she was defeated by Mirra Andriejewa 6‑3, 6‑2. Her run made her the first Polish woman to reach a Grand Slam final, lifted her WTA ranking by 93 places to world No. 21 and earned her €1.4 million in prize money.
Following the match, a series of national celebrations were organised. Polish airline LOT temporarily renamed flight LO334 to “LOTMAJA” as a tribute, a change that made the flight the most‑tracked on Flightradar24 during its journey to Warsaw. In Paris, Chwalińska and her team were taken on a celebratory boat cruise along the Seine, an “original” way to mark her success. Both gestures sparked widespread online excitement across Poland.
