Maja Chwalińska reaches French Open final sparking nationwide fan celebrations
Polish teenager Maja Chwalińska advanced to the final of the French Open (Roland Garros), drawing praise from local officials. At her home club, Beskidzkie Klub Tenisowy Advantage in Bielsko‑Biała, a new multi‑million‑zloty sports complex is under construction, featuring a fitness hall, rehabilitation zone and plans for a hotel.
Around 300 supporters gathered in Bielsko‑Biała and nearly 1,000 in Warsaw to watch the match on big screens. Mayor Jarosław Klimaszewski addressed the crowd, highlighting Chwalińska’s rise from the local club to world‑level competition. Fans chanted her name and celebrated despite her eventual loss, expressing pride in her achievement.
The club’s president noted that the new facilities aim to provide elite training resources so future players won’t need to travel for rehabilitation. The community’s enthusiasm underscores the growing profile of Polish tennis.
