Mirra Andreeva defeats Maja Chwalinska to win French Open women’s title

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva (19) captured her first Grand Slam by defeating Poland’s qualifier Maja Chwalinska (24) 6‑3, 6‑2 in the 2026 French Open women’s final. The victory makes Andreeva the youngest Roland Garros champion since Monica Seles in 1992 and the first Russian to win the tournament under a neutral flag imposed by the Ukraine war.

Chwalinska, ranked 114 before the event, became the first qualifier to reach a French Open final in the Open era, beating several top players en route. Her run lifts her into the world No. 21 after the tournament. The runner‑up prize is about €1.4 million (gross); the champion receives €2.8 million, with French taxes reducing net earnings to roughly €1.5 million for the winner and €0.8 million for the runner‑up. The match was played in windy conditions on Court Philippe‑Chatrier in Paris.

The final was broadcast live on Eurosport, HBO Max, DAZN and other platforms, and attracted extensive media coverage across Europe and beyond.
