Maja Chwalińska sidelined by Wimbledon ankle injury, misses Jassy event

Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska, ranked 21st on the WTA tour, was forced to retire after losing her first‑round Wimbledon match when she suffered a twisted right ankle and severe cramping. The injury led her to withdraw from the WTA 250 tournament in Jassy, Romania (13‑19 July) to concentrate on rehabilitation.

Her manager Piotr Szczypka said she is undergoing physiotherapy and light conditioning and expects to return to competition later in July, with possible entries in Hamburg (Germany) and then the WTA 1000 events in Toronto (Canada) and Cincinnati (United States). She is also targeting the US Open at the end of August and a WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara (Mexico) later in the year.
