Iga Swiatek ends 2026 season early due to thigh injury

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has officially announced the end of her 2026 season, citing a persistent left thigh injury. The decision follows her withdrawal from the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, China.

Swiatek’s injury became evident during her semifinal match at the Wuhan Open, where she lost to compatriot Maja Chwalinska. The injury has effectively ended her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals in Indian Wells, marking the first time since 2019 that she will miss the season-ending championship. While she remains eligible to participate as an alternate, she has opted to prioritize rest and physical recovery instead.

In a social media statement, Swiatek described the year as one of the most challenging of her career, noting the need for a long break to fully regenerate her body. Her only title this season came at the WTA 1000 in Toronto.
