Maja Popović accused of omitting luxury apartment from asset declaration
Maja Popović, a former Minister of Justice and current judge of the Constitutional Court of Serbia, has purchased a luxury three-bedroom apartment in Belgrade's Vračar district that was not included in her official asset declaration.
According to an investigation by KRIK, the 122-square-meter apartment, valued at approximately 500,000 euros, was purchased while the building was still under construction. Documents show Popović took out a 150,000 euro loan in September of last year for the purchase. It remains unclear how the remaining balance was financed, as Popović declined to answer inquiries regarding the source of the funds.
This new property increases the estimated total value of assets held by Popović and her husband, Rastko Popović, a judge at the Belgrade Court of Appeal, to approximately 1.5 million euros. The couple previously owned five apartments in Belgrade and Budva. Popović did not list this specific property in her asset declaration submitted to the Anti-Corruption Agency earlier this year.
