Majelis Ulama Indonesia Calls for Strict Follow‑up of Congress Recommendations and Highlights Fatwa Process

At the closing ceremony of the eighth Kongres Umat Islam Indonesia (KUII) held in Jakarta, the Vice Chairman of the MUI’s Advisory Council, Masykuri Abdillah, urged that all recommendations from the congress be monitored closely and enforced through the law‑making process. He noted that the congress addressed a wide range of issues, from social welfare and security to artificial intelligence, and called on the MUI’s legal and research commissions to track relevant regulations. Awards were presented to legal scholar Prof. Jimly Asshiddiqie and Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman for their contributions as speakers.

Separately, Prof. Dr. KH Shofiyullah Muzammil, head of the MUI Fatwa Commission, emphasized the lengthy, scholarly process behind MUI fatwas and praised three influential scholars—Prof. KH Ibrahim Husen, Prof. KH Ma’ruf Amin and Prof. KH Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh—for shaping Indonesia’s modern fatwa methodology. He stressed the commission’s independence and its role in providing guidance that extends beyond mere halal‑haram rulings.
