Majid Alibadi jailed for orchestrating Victoria tobacco war arson attacks

Majid Alibadi, a high-ranking lieutenant for the organized crime syndicate known as The Commission, has been jailed for orchestrating a series of arson attacks during the 2023 tobacco wars in Victoria.

Alibadi was convicted of directing firebombings against interests linked to rival gangland boss Fadi Haddara. These attacks included two separate incidents at the Karizma restaurant in Docklands and a function center in Tullamarine in November 2023. The prosecution described the 27-year-old as an “upper-level middle man” who was involved in the operational planning of tasks for the Hamad syndicate.

The conviction relied on evidence from listening devices and GPS surveillance, which captured incriminating conversations between Alibadi and syndicate leaders, including Kazem “Kaz” Hamad and Maytham Hamad. Evidence presented in court indicated that Alibadi maintained close ties with the Hamad brothers, even discussing videos of fires at properties associated with the Haddara family.
