Majid Majidi wins Best Film at Busan International Film Festival
Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi has won the Grand Prize for Best Film at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea for his latest work, ‘Noon Food’. The film follows a rural teacher struggling to maintain his livelihood amidst social and economic hardships.
During his acceptance speech, Majidi dedicated the award to the people of Iran. He addressed the severe economic and medical sanctions the country has faced over the last 48 years, noting that these pressures have even hindered access to essential medicines, such as those for children with cancer. He also commented on recent military tensions and attacks, emphasizing the resilience of the Iranian people.
Following the ceremony, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, issued a message praising Majidi. Ghalibaf described the filmmaker’s stance as a ‘brave and intelligent position’ that reflects national commitment and serves as a voice for the ideals of the Iranian people on a global stage.
