Majid Memon criticizes Maharashtra anti-conversion law

NCP (SP) leader Majid Memon has criticized the implementation of a new anti-conversion law in Maharashtra, arguing that forced religious conversion is already a crime under existing laws. He stated that new legislation is unnecessary and emphasized that the Constitution guarantees religious freedom to adults who choose to change their faith without coercion, greed, or pressure.

Memon also questioned the necessity of laws framed around concepts like ‘love jihad,’ asserting that the free will and constitutional rights of adults must be respected.

In addition to the anti-conversion debate, Memon addressed several other issues, including the potential for the government to rush through bills via political maneuvering ahead of elections without sufficient debate. He also commented on recent communal clashes in the Parel-Chinchpokli area during Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, calling for better security measures to prevent such conflicts during religious festivals.
