Major Crime Investigation Agency receives 2,375 applicants

A total of 2,375 prosecutors and investigators have applied for special appointment to the Major Crime Investigation Agency (MCIA), which is scheduled to launch on October 2. This figure represents 82.6% of the agency's total planned workforce of 2,874.

While most applicants are prosecution investigators, approximately 100 prosecutors have also applied. Notable applicants include Lim Eun-jeong, head of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, and Moon Ji-seok, a chief prosecutor at the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office. The applicant pool reportedly includes many senior-level prosecutors, specifically those from the 36th and 37th classes of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, who may form the agency's initial leadership line.

The MCIA preparation team will review applicants' expertise and preferred work locations throughout September to finalize appointments for the October launch. Following this initial phase, the agency plans to expand recruitment to include police officers, lawyers, accountants, and specialists in cyber and financial analysis once the organizational structure of the Prosecution Service is finalized.
