Major Crimes Investigation Agency begins inspection of regional head Lim Eun-jeong

The Major Crimes Investigation Agency (MCIA) has launched a formal internal inspection of Lim Eun-jeong, the head of the Gwangju regional office, following directives from Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung. The inspection aims to analyze Lim’s public criticisms of Kim Ji-yong, the nominee for the agency’s first chief, regarding his suitability for the role.

Lim has publicly challenged Kim’s qualifications, citing past handling of sexual misconduct allegations and his stance on prosecutorial investigative powers. In response, Kim Ji-yong stated during his personnel hearing that such public criticism by a subordinate undermines organizational discipline. Minister Yoon characterized Lim’s actions as potentially violating duties of political neutrality and maintaining professional dignity.

The inspection process is currently being led by an acting inspector and involves analyzing Lim’s social media posts and media statements. If disciplinary action is deemed necessary, the MCIA will request the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to deliberate on the matter, with final decision-making authority resting with the disciplinary committee under the Prime Minister.
