Major IT firms slash H-1B visa registrations in the US

Major Indian information technology services companies have significantly reduced their participation in the US H-1B visa lottery for fiscal 2027. According to a Congressional Research Service report, Cognizant recorded a 100% decline in registrations, while Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reduced their entries by 91% and 95%, respectively.

Infosys submitted 759 registrations for fiscal 2027, down from 8,886 in fiscal 2026. TCS registered 284 candidates compared to 5,955 the previous year, and Cognizant’s registrations fell from 3,752 to zero. These shifts occur amid tighter immigration rules and increased scrutiny of employers under the Trump administration, which has raised potential hiring costs and altered the visa selection process.
