Major League Baseball abandons Grand Teton National Park game plans

Major League Baseball (MLB) has abandoned plans to host a temporary baseball park in Grand Teton National Park following significant backlash from the local community in Wyoming. Commissioner Rob Manfred informed the Teton County Commission in a letter that the league will no longer evaluate the park as a potential site for a special regular-season game.

The proposal, which had been reported to involve discussions with the Trump administration, aimed to host a stand-alone event similar to the ‘Field of Dreams’ games. However, local officials, including the Mayor of Jackson and the Teton County Commission, voiced strong opposition, citing concerns over the environmental impact on the 310,000-acre park and its wildlife habitats.

Manfred clarified that the league was only conducting initial due diligence and had not yet reached the stage of evaluating environmental impacts or soliciting community views. He stated, “We obviously would not bring a game to a community that has concerns about the venue, and will not continue to evaluate Grand Teton National Park as a potential site.”
