Major League Baseball abandons Grand Teton stadium proposal
Major League Baseball (MLB) has abandoned a controversial proposal to build a new stadium within Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The plan, which involved approaching the Trump administration in late September, aimed to utilize the park’s unique scenery and isolation as a backdrop for baseball.
The proposal faced widespread criticism from conservationists and the public, who argued that a commercial stadium would conflict with the National Park Service Organic Act of 1916, which mandates the conservation of natural and historic objects. Critics noted that the park is a vital habitat for wildlife, including grizzly bears, bison, and wolves.
While research identified several existing or former baseball diamonds within Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks, MLB has confirmed it will not pursue the development of a permanent stadium in the area. Tiernan Sittenfeld, CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association, stated that no stadium will be built in any of the 63 national parks.
