Major League Baseball players join Caribbean winter leagues

Several Major League Baseball players are joining Caribbean winter league rosters to bolster their respective teams.

In the Dominican Republic, Toros del Este has announced the return of outfielder Jared Oliva. Oliva, 29, previously played for the San Francisco Giants and brings speed, defensive stability, and productive hitting to the roster. He replaces utility player Peyton Eeles, who is sidelined with injuries.

In Venezuela, the Tiburones de La Guaira have added Atlanta Braves pitcher Elieser Hernández. The right-hander is expected to make his debut in Margarita to strengthen a pitching staff that has struggled early in the season. This marks Hernández's third season in the Venezuelan league.
