Major League Soccer poised to join top‑10 revenue leagues as expansion looms

A Sportcal analysis shows Major League Soccer’s average team revenue has risen to about $32 million, moving the league into profitability and placing it among the world’s top‑10 soccer leagues by revenue per club. The report notes that when expansion‑fee income is included, MLS already ranks within the top ten, with an expected $800 million shared over the next five years.

A separate study ranks U.S. cities most likely to receive the league’s next two expansion franchises. Sacramento leads the list, followed by Louisville, Providence, Raleigh and Jacksonville. Recent additions include San Diego FC (2025), St. Louis City SC (2023) and Charlotte FC (2022), indicating a continued push to grow the league’s footprint across the United States and Canada.
