Major League Soccer sets record transfer spending and revenue
Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced record-breaking financial activity in the international transfer market for 2026. The league reported that clubs spent more than $370 million to acquire new players, marking a 10.1% increase from the $336 million spent in 2025.
On the revenue side, MLS clubs generated a record $218 million from player transfers, up from $202 million the previous year. The league also saw a significant influx of high-level talent, including 30 players with World Cup experience and 186 international signings representing 51 different countries. Notable arrivals included Robert Lewandowski to the Chicago Fire and Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City.
In terms of player departures, Real Salt Lake homegrown player Zavier Gozo set a record with a reported $22 million transfer to Crystal Palace. To better align with international transfer windows and global leagues, MLS announced it will transition to a summer-to-spring schedule next year.
