Major oil and gas discoveries reported in North Sea and Vietnam
Significant oil and gas discoveries have been reported in both the North Sea and the South China Sea.
In the North Sea, Norwegian companies Aker BP, Equinor, and DNO completed exploratory drilling at the Verdandi and Lillefix fields near Stavanger. The well, designated 16/1-EA-4 H, identified a 14-meter gas column and a 44-meter oil column within the Heimdal formation. Preliminary estimates for recoverable resources have been upgraded to between 8 and 15 million barrels of oil equivalent.
In Vietnam, the Golden Sea Lion (Hai Su Vang) field in the Cuu Long Basin has been identified as one of the largest oil discoveries in Southeast Asia in two decades. Following exploratory drilling by Murphy Oil, the Golden Sea Lion-2X well revealed a hydrocarbon structure approximately 500 meters high, including a 130-meter pure oil layer. Wood Mackenzie ranks this as the third-largest discovery in Southeast Asia since 2000. Petrovietnam and Murphy Oil are collaborating to develop the field's potential.
