Major running events are scheduled for 2026 in South America. The Itaú Maratón de Viña is set to take place in Viña del Mar, Chile, on October 4, 2026. Organizers expect over 12,000 participants to compete in 42K, 21K, and 10K distances.

The event is noted for its significant socioeconomic impact; a 2025 study estimated a contribution of over 3.4 billion pesos to the local economy, driving tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality. Most participants travel from other regions, with 60% coming from the Metropolitan Region.

In Las Mercedes, Venezuela, the Bimbo Global Race 2026 will be held on September 27. The event includes 5K walks and 10K runs. To ensure safety, the Baruta Municipality has announced several road closures starting at 6:00 AM, affecting main avenues such as Avenida La Guairita, Avenida Araure, and Avenida Río de Janeiro.
