Majorca enforces six‑drink limit as anti‑tourism protests are planned

Spanish authorities in the Balearic Islands have tightened alcohol rules for holidaymakers. A new six‑drink daily cap applies to all‑inclusive packages in resorts such as Magaluf, Playa de Palma and San Antonio, and drinking in public spaces is prohibited. Violations can incur fines ranging from €500 to €3,000.

At the same time, local activist group Menys Turisme Mes Vida announced a protest against overtourism on July 26 in Palma, citing housing pressures, airport expansion and insufficient government action. The collective has criticized recent measures such as a tourist‑tax increase and vehicle‑registration schemes as inadequate. British tourists, who made up a large share of the 3.5 million visitors last year, are being warned to avoid public drinking and excessive noise to avoid penalties.

The combined regulatory crackdown and upcoming demonstration highlight growing tensions between residents and the tourism industry on Majorca and the wider Balearics.
