Tourists vacationing on the island of Majorca have reported being bitten by small fish in the Mediterranean Sea. Incidents have been concentrated in areas such as Illetes, Cala Comtessa, and Playa de Palma.

Reports indicate that the bites can be painful and, in some cases, cause bleeding. Experts suggest the culprits may be species such as sargus (white seabream) or lufar (amberjack), which possess sharp teeth. Some observations note that the fish appear to be targeting dead skin or searching for food.

Scientists point to rising sea temperatures in the Mediterranean as a potential driver for this behavior. Increased water temperatures can accelerate the metabolism of marine life, leading to a higher demand for food and more active, less cautious behavior around humans in shallow waters.
