Makabi Lilepo leaves Kaizer Chiefs after contract dispute

Congolese winger Makabi Lilepo has departed South African football club Kaizer Chiefs following a breakdown in contract negotiations. The 29-year-old forward, who was a key contributor to the team’s third-place finish in the Betway Premiership, has since joined the Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi.

Lilepo stated that his departure was driven by a request for a salary increase, which he believed was justified by his performance and status as a vital player. Despite discussions with manager Kaizer Motaung Jr, the club reportedly maintained a strict financial model and refused to meet his wage demands.

Lilepo expressed support for the club’s current direction under coach Fernando Da Cruz, noting that the team has signed several new players. Kaizer Chiefs has since signed Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC to bolster their squad.
