Makarska records positive natural population growth
Makarska has become one of only six Croatian cities to record positive natural population growth in 2025. The city recorded 146 births and 131 deaths, resulting in a net increase of 15 residents, a significant shift from the previous year's deficit of 26.
This demographic trend is attributed to sustained local investments in infrastructure for families and young people. Key developments include the opening of the Maslina kindergarten in 2022 and the upcoming opening of an annex to the Ciciban kindergarten, funded by European resources.
Further investments in education include the energy renovation of Stjepan Ivičević Elementary School and the acquisition of land for a sports hall at Oca Petra Perice Elementary School. The city has also secured funds for school annexes to facilitate single-shift teaching, addressing long-standing logistical challenges for local families.
