Makassar City hosts 2026 Job Fair to reduce unemployment
The Makassar City Government is hosting the Makassar Job Fair 2026 at Phinisi Point Mall to combat unemployment. The two-day event, held on August 19–20, 2026, offers over 1,547 job vacancies to the public free of charge.
Mayor Munafri Arifuddin stated that reducing unemployment is a government priority. He noted that recent interventions, including job training and investment incentives, have helped lower the city's open unemployment rate from double digits to approximately 9 percent. The Mayor emphasized the need for collaboration between the government, businesses, and educational institutions to further accelerate this decline.
In addition to job placement, the city government is providing social protections for vulnerable workers. Through the regional budget, Makassar has provided work and death safety guarantees for over 81,000 vulnerable workers and old-age benefits for approximately 41,000 citizens. The job fair is being conducted under the theme ‘Inclusive, Competent, and Transparent’ to ensure accessibility and transparency for all applicants.
