Makassar economy grows 7.04% in Q2 2026

Makassar's economy grew by 7.04 percent in the second quarter of 2026, exceeding the 6.43 percent target set in the 2026 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD). This growth follows a 6.61 percent increase recorded in the first quarter of the year.

During a plenary session regarding the 2026 Revised Regional Budget (APBD Perubahan), members of the Makassar City Council discussed the implications of these figures. While the PKS Fraction expressed appreciation for Mayor Munafri Arifuddin's leadership and the positive economic trend, they urged the government to ensure that statistical growth translates into tangible improvements in public services.

Specific concerns raised by council members include the need for better road maintenance, drainage, sanitation, clean water, waste management, and job creation. Additionally, the council noted a shift in the budget structure, where operating expenditures increased by approximately Rp146 billion, while capital expenditures saw a decrease of about Rp55 billion.
