Makassar implements agricultural aid and urban farming initiatives
The Makassar City Government is implementing various initiatives to strengthen the local agricultural sector and promote urban farming to combat climate change and land scarcity.
During a farmers' meeting in the Barombong area, Mayor Munafri Arifuddin announced the distribution of significant agricultural aid. This includes 2,000 liters of liquid organic fertilizer, 2,365 kilograms of rice seeds, five cultivators, 20 electric hand sprayers, and two water pumps. The initiative aims to increase crop productivity and address water availability issues caused by prolonged dry seasons.
Simultaneously, urban farming efforts are expanding in the Maccini Parang sub-district. The ‘Sipakatau’ urban farming project, a collaboration between local officials and community members, recently completed its second harvest. The project seeks to transform underutilized vacant land into productive, educational, and innovative community spaces to empower residents within the urban environment.
