Makassar implements digital monitoring and cleaning to improve water quality

Authorities in Makassar are implementing new measures to improve water quality management and environmental maintenance. Perumda Air Minum Kota Makassar conducted a collective cleaning effort along raw water channels on Jalan Abdul Dg Sirua to remove waste and debris that could obstruct water flow or impact the environment.

In a parallel digital initiative, the Makassar Public Health Laboratory has launched the Sipakatau Integrated Water Quality Monitoring System. This pilot project aims to digitize and integrate inspection data from refillable drinking water depots (DAMIU). Currently, the system includes data from 182 depots across 50 community health centers (puskesmas), with plans to expand coverage to all depots in the city. The application serves as a collaborative workspace for health centers, sanitarians, and laboratories to ensure objective and centralized monitoring of water sanitation and inspection histories.
