Makassar implements online schooling to mitigate fuel shortages
The Makassar city government has implemented online learning for students from early childhood (PAUD) through junior high school (SMP), effective September 12, 2026. Mayor Munafri Arifuddin stated the decision is a tactical response to long queues at fuel stations (SPBU) across the city.
The policy aims to reduce public mobility and ease traffic congestion caused by fuel-seeking vehicles during school hours. By shifting to remote learning, the city hopes to decrease daily fuel consumption and alleviate the pressure on local gas stations while ensuring educational activities continue uninterrupted.
