Makassar Mayor monitors haze levels and healthcare readiness

Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin is implementing strategic measures to address haze pollution and prepare for the upcoming rainy season. On Friday, October 16, 2026, the Mayor visited the Sultan Hasanuddin Class I Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to monitor atmospheric conditions and air quality data.

While BMKG reported that haze levels have relatively decreased compared to previous periods, the municipal government remains on high alert. The Mayor emphasized the need for concrete solutions to protect public health rather than focusing solely on the causes of the smoke.

In addition to monitoring air quality, Arifuddin inspected healthcare readiness at RSUD Daya Makassar to anticipate potential surges in Acute Respiratory Infection (ISPA) cases. During his visit, he distributed masks to patients and visitors and urged the Health Office to ensure medical facilities are prepared for increased patient loads. Currently, hospital reports indicate no significant spike in respiratory patients, with several patients already showing signs of improvement.
