AMSI holds IDMC 2026 to discuss media transformation and AI
The Indonesian Cyber Media Association (AMSI) opened the 2026 Indonesia Digital Media Conference (IDMC) in Surabaya, focusing on the theme ‘Media Reborn: Reinventing News Media in the Era of AI & Content Creator’. The conference addresses the challenges of maintaining journalistic independence and sustainability amidst the rise of artificial intelligence and content creators.
Key discussions highlighted the economic imbalance in the digital ecosystem, noting that approximately 80 percent of Indonesia’s Rp71.5 trillion advertising market is controlled by three major digital platforms. Experts noted that while media companies bear the costs of production and verification, they often lack proportional economic returns. Additionally, a high dependency on government advertising was identified as a vulnerability for many outlets.
To combat declining public trust—cited at 33 percent by the Reuters Institute—AMSI outlined five strategic agendas: redefining journalism through fact-based verification, strengthening the media’s role as a social connector, developing diverse business models, increasing inter-media collaboration, and reinforcing the role of associations to rebuild public confidence. The event also included the AMSI Awards 2026 to recognize media innovation in technology and inclusivity.
