Makassar student fakes kidnapping to extort Rp 90 million from parents

A 23-year-old university student, identified by the initials EE, was detained in Makassar after staging a fake kidnapping to extort money from his parents.

The incident began when EE’s parents lost contact with him and subsequently received messages from an individual claiming he was being held captive. The captors demanded a ransom of Rp 90 million, alleging that EE owed the money and threatening to kill him if the debt was not settled.

Following a report to the Polrestabes Makassar Jatanras unit, investigators located EE at a boarding house in the Tamalanrea area. Police investigations revealed that EE had orchestrated the entire scenario, including the threats, to obtain funds to support his daily needs and lifestyle.
