Makassar youth dies following police intervention in street brawl

A 19-year-old man, Rafli Ramadhani, died following a police intervention during a group brawl in Makassar on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The incident occurred in the Tallo district around 02:50 WITA.

According to the South Sulawesi Regional Police, officers from the Tallo Police Sector were deployed to disperse the crowd after being attacked with stones and bows. Police officials stated that warning shots were fired to stop the clash. Following the incident, a resident reported a fatality, and the victim was subsequently taken to the hospital.

The South Sulawesi Regional Police have expressed condolences and confirmed that the death is suspected to be caused by a bullet from an officer's firearm. An autopsy has been conducted with family consent to determine the exact cause of death, and the Professional and Security Division (Propam) is involved in the investigation.
