Make-A-Wish launches operations in Dominican Republic
Make-A-Wish has officially launched its operations in the Dominican Republic, marking the first time the international organization has established a presence in the Caribbean and the ninth in Latin America. The program is designed to grant wishes to children and adolescents between the ages of 3 and 17 who are facing critical illnesses, such as cancer, renal diseases, neurological conditions, and rare blood disorders.
The organization has already fulfilled its first wish in the country for a young girl with renal issues who dreamed of becoming a doctor. This experience was conducted with support from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE).
Mario Pujols Ortiz, President of the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish Dominican Republic, stated that the program aims to fulfill 20 wishes by the end of 2026, with a long-term goal of reaching approximately 200 wishes by its third year of operation. The organization is now calling for families to apply for the program through official channels and is seeking to build a network of medical professionals, volunteers, and corporate partners to sustain its activities.
