Makedox Festival awards top documentary ‘Tristan Forever’
The 17th edition of the Makedox Creative Documentary Film Festival concluded in Skopje, Macedonia, under the theme ‘Only a dream is reality’. The festival saw high attendance, with seven out of eight screening nights selling out.
The top prize, the ‘Kromid’ award for best feature documentary, was awarded to ‘Tristan Forever’ by Tobias Nolte and Laurent Bonard. The jury praised the film for its intimate visual language and its exploration of psychological isolation and belonging. Other major awards included the ‘Young Kromid’ for new authors, won by David Bim for ‘To the West, in the West’, and the ‘Sjekani Kromid’ for best short documentary, awarded to Xavier Marades for ‘Bird Scattering’.
The festival also hosted the eighth edition of the MakedokoproDocs forum, which focused on regional cooperation and project development for Balkan film professionals. Additionally, a panel discussion addressed the decline of cinema infrastructure in Skopje, noting that the city has transitioned from having 16 cinemas in the early 1990s to just one multiplex today.
