Makeup techniques for mature skin focus on soft colors and textures
Beauty experts are offering specialized makeup techniques tailored for mature skin, focusing on eye area enhancement and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and puffiness.
For eyeliner, professionals suggest moving away from harsh black tones in favor of softer shades like chocolate brown, bronze, taupe, or eggplant to define brown eyes more naturally. Cream-based formulas are recommended over liquid ones to prevent emphasizing wrinkles. Seasonal trends also highlight olive green, espresso, and charcoal as sophisticated alternatives to traditional black.
To refresh the face after age 50, experts recommend using primers or concealers to even out eyelid tone and opting for satin or creamy matte textures rather than heavy glitters, which can accentuate skin texture. Hydrating stick shadows are also advised for drier eyelids.
Regarding concealer application, professional makeup artist Xabier Rodrigues advises against covering entire eye bags. Instead, applying a slightly lighter shade to the hollow area adjacent to the bag creates an optical illusion that balances the contour. He also warns against using excessively light concealers, which can result in a grayish appearance, suggesting peach or orange color correctors to neutralize dark circles first.
