Makhmud Muradov wins Oktagon MMA light heavyweight title
Makhmud Muradov secured the Oktagon MMA light heavyweight title after a dramatic second-round knockout of champion Will Fleury. Muradov entered the bout as a late replacement, overcoming a dominant first round where Fleury controlled much of the action. However, Muradov landed a decisive right hand just fifteen seconds into the second round, leading to a referee stoppage.
Following the fight, Fleury expressed interest in an immediate rematch. Muradov responded by stating he would only accept a rematch if it were for Fleury’s heavyweight title. Muradov also addressed criticisms regarding the referee's timing, defending the official's decision to intervene for fighter safety and dismissing claims that his winning blow was merely a ‘lucky punch.’
Oktagon co-owner Ondřej Novotný praised both fighters, noting that the sudden change in opponent was a significant challenge for both parties. Amidst his rising profile in Oktagon, Muradov is also reportedly linked to a high-profile engagement with the G MMA organization.
