Makis Gagatsis discusses the future of Greek football at UEFA tribute

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), UEFA held a special tribute to Greek football. During the event, EPO President Makis Gagatsis discussed the future prospects and necessary reforms for the sport in Greece.

Gagatsis expressed optimism regarding the current state of Greek football, noting the increased presence of Greek players in top European leagues and growing investments by domestic clubs. He emphasized that while talent exists within the country, structural improvements are required to fully utilize it.

Key initiatives mentioned include the ‘Renaissance’ program, which focuses on investing in the future through youth academies, coach education, and infrastructure. Gagatsis also highlighted plans for a new national team training center and an academy designed to train new football executives. His stated goal for the national team is to achieve consistent participation in major international tournaments and compete effectively against Europe’s elite teams.
