Makita launches first 18V cordless vacuum with electric rotating brush

Makita has announced the release of the CL287FD, its first cordless vacuum cleaner in the 18V battery series to feature an electric rotating brush. Released on September 10, the device is available in grey and white.

The new power nozzle uses a motor to rotate the brush, allowing it to lift debris from long-pile carpets while providing propulsion that makes the unit easier to move. The brush automatically stops when the nozzle is lifted from the floor. The vacuum features a 250mL cyclone integrated dust collection system and a weight of 1.5kg including the battery. It is compatible with Makita's existing 18V series 350 models or higher.

Performance settings include four levels: ‘Powerful’ (110W), ‘Strong’ (60W), ‘Standard’ (35W), and ‘Eco’ (15W). When using a 3.0Ah 18V battery, continuous runtimes range from approximately 8 minutes on ‘Powerful’ to 38 minutes on ‘Eco’. While the power nozzle significantly improves carpet cleaning performance, the price point—approximately 93,170 yen including battery and charger—represents a notable increase compared to Makita’s traditionally low-cost stick vacuum models.
