Makkah Clock Tower struck by lightning during powerful storm
A powerful storm swept through Mecca, featuring a dramatic lightning strike on the iconic Makkah Clock Tower. The event was captured in viral footage by photographer Youssef Badjas and documented by Saudi astronomer Mulham Hindi.
The storm also affected the area surrounding the Great Mosque, where pilgrims were seen performing prayers in the rain. According to Hindi, thunderstorms are a common phenomenon in Mecca and western Saudi Arabia during the months of August and September. The Makkah Clock Tower, standing approximately 601 meters tall, became a central focus of the weather event due to its massive scale and prominent position on the city's skyline.
