Makkah worshippers continue prayers during heavy rain at Grand Mosque

Heavy rain and hail swept through Makkah on Sunday, September 13, 2026, affecting the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram). Worshippers continued their Maghrib prayers and religious rituals around the Kaaba despite the downpour and water covering the marble courtyards.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) had issued warnings for thunderstorms across several regions of Saudi Arabia, including the highlands of Makkah and Madinah, through September 14. These storms were expected to bring hail, strong winds, and potential flash floods to various areas including Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha.
