Mako Mining signs agreement for Eagle Mountain Gold Project in Guyana

The Government of Guyana and Mako Mining Corp. have signed a mineral agreement to develop the Eagle Mountain Gold Project. The agreement establishes the legal, fiscal, and operating framework for the project, which is located near Mahdia in Region 8.

Mako Mining, a Canadian-headquartered company, plans to invest up to US$120 million to build a gold mining facility. The company has already invested over US$30 million and has begun minor infrastructure construction. Major construction is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2027, with gold production expected to begin by late 2028.

CEO Akiba Leisman stated that the company aims to extract approximately 1.1 million ounces of gold from the open-pit mine, which is projected to have a 15-year lifespan. The project is expected to directly employ about 250 Guyanese workers and includes commitments to environmental stewardship and community development.
