Mako Paddle Club heads to dragon boat world championships

The Mako Paddle Club’s Senior A dragon boat crew from Jervis Bay is traveling to Taiwan to compete in the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships, scheduled for September 5 to 10.

Following a successful performance at the Australian championships, where the crew earned one gold and two silver medals across the 200m, 500m, and 2000m races, the team is preparing to face international competition. The Senior A squad consists of 10 mixed-gender paddlers over the age of 40, accompanied by a drummer and a sweep.

Club coach Kristin Chick noted that while the club is from a small regional area, several members have previous experience representing Australia. Chick expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete against younger crews, citing their strong performance in the 200-metre race and their recent domestic success.
