Makoto-chan Pop-Up Store Opens at Tokyo's Hakaba Gallery

A pop‑up store dedicated to Kazuo Umezu’s manga *Makoto‑chan* opened at the Hakaba Gallery in Nakano, Tokyo, on 20 August 2026 and will run until 15 September 2026, with an online component. The event marks the series’ 50th anniversary and the creator’s 90th birthday.

The store offers a range of original merchandise, including T‑shirts, pull‑over hoodies, jerseys, caps, and a long‑sleeve shirt featuring the iconic “Guwashi!” hand sign, as well as acrylic stands, key‑chains, stickers, tote bags, hand‑kerchiefs, mugs, and other household items. Designs reference classic panels and characters such as the protagonist Makoto‑chan and the mascot “Makoto‑mushi".

Fans can also explore exhibition panels, a photo‑spot, and a message board that showcase the manga’s absurd humor and distinctive art style.
