Makoulou Ngoulou market in Pointe-Noire to undergo rehabilitation

The Makoulou Ngoulou market, also known as the 'market of the people,' in the Nkouikou district of Pointe-Noire is facing severe degradation. The facility suffers from extreme unsanitary conditions, with waste accumulating around stalls and causing foul odors. Additionally, the market's capacity can no longer meet the growing needs of the surrounding population.

Local authorities, including Edith Yolande Ketta-Mbanguyd, the administrator-mayor of the 4th Loandjili arrondissement, have conducted site visits to assess the damage. A critical safety concern has emerged as parts of the roof are at risk of collapsing, posing a direct threat to the safety of vendors and customers.

To address these issues, a rehabilitation project has been announced under the PRRU framework. This initiative is funded by the World Bank in partnership with the Congolese state to restore the facility and improve local infrastructure.
