Dinamo Zagreb faces backlash over new Maksimir stadium design

The selection of the winning architectural design for the new Maksimir stadium in Zagreb has sparked significant controversy. The winning project, submitted by Milan-based VG13 Architects, was chosen from 88 entries by an international jury.

However, the decision has faced intense backlash from Dinamo Zagreb supporters, specifically the Bad Blue Boys, who stated, “Such a solution we cannot support.” Their primary objections include the lack of a closed stadium design and the absence of interconnected stands, expressing concerns over weather protection and acoustics. The Domovinski pokret party has also called for an electronic public consultation to allow citizens to weigh in on the project.

Dinamo President Zvonimir Boban defended the jury's decision, asserting that the project was evaluated on urbanistic and architectural merits. While acknowledging the widespread dissatisfaction among fans, Boban maintained his support for the professional verdict. Other figures, including former club leader Zdravko Mamić, have also criticized the design, with some polls indicating high levels of public disapproval.
